Kasadyahan Festival 2014, A Cultural Fusion

I've been asked a lot why I love going to the Visayas - especially in Iloilo. Well, aside from really charming places to go... they have lots of Festivals.

This festival fixation all started when I witnessed the Aliwan festival 5 years back [...]
 Oh how I miss college!
Anyway! It's an annual event that showcases and gathers different cultural festivals from all around the Philippines. I was so amazed with basically everything! From costumes, to floats and of course the vibrant and lively performance presented by the groups.

The festival being held a day before the Dinagyang festival is very similar to that. As much as I would love to go to all the places where these festivities and performances are held, I don't have all the time and funds.Going to one place to see these performances is really a gift to someone who is fond of events like this.

Now, me being located in the metro, I get to see the Aliwan Fiesta and as a Dinagyang Festival die-hard fan... there is the Kasadyahan Festival in Iloilo which comes a day before the Dinagyang. It's held on a Saturday before the Ati competition. It focuses on celebrating the goodness of the Creator for the bounties given to the Western Visayans through a grand dancing parade filled with color and grace.

Kasadyahan festival is participated in by the municipalities and local government units and schools in the Western Visayas. It has become a major cultural event that made it's mark completely distinct from that of Ati performances.

It has captured the attention of local and foreign countries alike as well as the media, thereby making Iloilo a popular destination on the month of January. This year’s emphasis is on the theme of each tribe presentation  through dance drama. It is a search for best dance interpretation of festivals of each competing group that shows exceptional qualities in dancing skills and dance themes.
